OAG FACTS – Executive Summary January 2012

This month’s analysis of the OAG (Official Airline Guide) schedules database indicates that airlines Worldwide will operate 2% more flights in January 2012 as compared to January 2011. The total number of scheduled flights operating in January 2012 is 2,527,415 with an overall seat offering of 320,177,368 an increase of 3% as compared to January 2011.

_ Flights and offered seats To/From North America have increased by 4% and 2% respectively. Total number of flights that will operate To/From North America is 91,324 and total offered seats are 17,730,902. Traffic Within North America reflects a decrease of 3% in both frequencies and offered seats. Frequencies Within North America have decreased by 25,532 and offered seats have decreased by 2,036,280.

_ Flight operations and offered seats Within Europe have decreased by 2% and 1% respectively. Total number of flights that will operate Within Europe is 510,838 and total offered seats are 62,838,554. Traffic To/From Europe reflects a decrease of 1% in the number of flights but a small increase of 0.2% in offered seats.

_ The number of flights and seat capacity Within Middle East are scheduled to rise by 6% and 4% respectively. Total flights scheduled to operate Within Middle East are 48,225 and seat capacity offered is 7,289,599. Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Middle East both reflect an increase of 9%, with frequency of 58,654 and seat capacity of 12,756,597.

_ Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Asia Pacific has increased by 7% and 6% respectively. Within Asia/Pacific there will be 46,950 more flights and 7,187,605 more seats than in January 2011 resulting in an increase of 8% in both flight operations and seat offerings.

_ Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Africa have decreased by 7% and 6% respectively. As compared to January 2011 there will be 2,652 less flights and 450,628 less seats this month. Traffic Within Africa reflects growth of 4% in flight operations and 3% in offered seats.

_ Flight operations and seat capacity Within Central & South America have increased by 11% and 12% respectively. Total number of flights that will operate Within Central & South America is 241,078 and total offered seats are 25,403,142. Flights and seat capacity To/From Central & South America have increased by 6% and 5% respectively, with 3,994 more flights and 552,949 moreseats.

_ The table below shows the ten-year trend in the overall number of flight operations to/from & within selected regions from January 2003 through to January 2012.
